Joshua Henderson Push10 Senior Web Developer Head shots

Can you tell us about your journey here — what was your first role, and how has it changed over the years?

I started as a junior developer right after an internship at another agency. One of my first tasks at Push10 was building email templates for a client. It was all about keeping things simple — lots of testing and QA with tables to make sure everything worked across email clients. I was super nervous when I launched my first client project, a small 5-page site, but since then, I’ve had the chance to work on pretty much every type of project we handle — small sites, big institutional sites, you name it. It’s been an amazing journey!

Push10 opened its doors in 2008, and now you’re celebrating 10 years! What do you think has kept you here for the long haul?

Honestly, it’s been the quality of the projects and the amazing clients we’ve had the chance to work with. I’m constantly challenged, which keeps me on my toes. And, of course, the people. The team at Push10 is incredible, and I’ve learned so much from everyone in strategy and design. It’s inspiring to see the thought and effort that goes into a project before it even gets to development.

What’s one project that stands out as your all-time favorite (or most challenging) during your time here?

The Princeton SGS website is probably my favorite project. It was my first deep dive into Drupal, and the sitemap was manageable enough to help me learn the ins and outs of the CMS. It was challenging but in the best way possible. I definitely came out of it with a new skill set!

Push10 has grown and evolved so much since you started. What’s been the biggest or most exciting change you’ve seen over the years?

The biggest change has been the growth of the team. When I started, we were a small group of six, and now we have departments for strategists, project managers, account managers, designers, and developers. This allows us to tackle larger, more complex projects and deliver an even higher caliber of work.

We know every job comes with its quirks. Do you have a funny or memorable Push10 story that makes you laugh every time?

Oh, yes. A while back, we were gearing up to launch a site, and everything was looking great—pages loading fast, content perfect. Then, suddenly, all the images disappeared. At first, I thought it was something I did, but after some investigating, I realized there was a worldwide outage with Amazon’s S3 bucket, which we used to host images. I was relieved that it wasn’t my mistake, but also annoyed that I had to just wait around for Amazon to fix the issue. Luckily, the client was super understanding, and we were able to relaunch without a hitch.

If someone asked you to describe Push10 in three words, what would they be? Why?

“Not enough letter-spacing.”
“Too much margin.”
(Just kidding… kind of!)

What’s been your secret to thriving in such a fast-paced, creative environment for a whole decade?

Flexibility! I’ve learned to stay adaptable with how I approach projects. Things change quickly in our industry, and staying flexible means I can always deliver the best results while keeping things fresh and fun.

Push10 is all about creative collaboration. Which teammate(s) or moment(s) have had the biggest impact on you over the years?

Hands down, the “desk chats” or QA sessions with a designer have had the biggest impact. There’s nothing more humbling than thinking you’ve got a site looking perfect, only to realize during a review that you missed something. These sessions are crucial for making sure we deliver the best possible product, and they’ve helped me learn so much from our design team.

What advice would you give to someone just starting at Push10 (or in the creative industry) who hopes to stick around for 10 years like you?

Don’t take critique personally! It’s an essential part of growing in a creative role. Every piece of feedback helps you improve and become better at what you do.

Finally, we have to ask — what’s next for you at Push10? What are you most excited about for the future?

I’m really excited about some internal dev projects we’ve got going on that are going to help us build and code even better. And yes, I’m definitely excited for the new Push10 site — coming soon!

Here’s to 10 years, and many more to come! We’re excited for what’s next and are so glad Josh has been a huge part of the Push10 family for this long. Keep up the great work!
